Bai-Tee brings Middle Eastern and French pastry to the Boardwalk

Bai-Tee is an oceanfront bakery, cafe, kitchen and bar on the Boardwalk, from Peter Elias, who also owns Spain Wine Bar. It opened at the end of last summer, which makes this a catch-up item rather than news: it has been there a year and this guide simply never wrote it down.

The baking is French and Middle Eastern at once. Kouign-amann and a pistachio cherry tart on the pastry side; a croque monsieur with gruyère and béchamel, and a lamb kebab pita, on the savoury side. It is the least boardwalk-ish thing on the Boardwalk, which is the reason to walk past three funnel cake stands to get to it.

It has a page in the guide now. The bakery's own site gives the address as 1401 Atlantic Avenue, at 14th Street on the Boardwalk, and publishes seven in the morning until three in the afternoon, daily — the only place in this batch whose hours come from the business itself. Its own site and the OceanCity.com listing print different phone numbers, and the record carries both rather than picking a winner quietly. The season is still unconfirmed, so nothing here should be read as a promise it is open when you get there in February.
