The take

The mainland end of the bus system that carries two and a half million riders a year. It cost $4.356 million and opened in 2001, and it is the town's best environmental exhibit: a local scientist told the council in 2002 that the site had been a hobo camp, a bored development, concrete rubble and four acres of Phragmites, and that building the Park and Ride created and enhanced four acres of tidal wetland. In October 2019 it appears again, for a different reason — the Public Works Director told the Police Commission his staff were finding people sleeping on its benches and sidewalk.
