The take
Local history says that in 1869, Isaac Coffin opened a beachfront cottage to paying guests on land patented as 'The Ladies' Resort to the Ocean' — the entire resort industry here, starting with one house. The cottage is long gone; the idea obviously caught on. Everything else in this guide descends from this spot.
