Pedicabs have replaced the Boardwalk tram — here is what they cost
Atlantic Pedicabs runs the Boardwalk from 2pm to midnight. Ten dollars gets you about a half-mile; thirty gets you the full 2.2 miles.

If you came for the tram, it is not coming. In its place the town awarded a Boardwalk franchise to Atlantic Pedicabs, a New Jersey company that already runs cycle rickshaws on the Jersey Shore and in Brooklyn. About five cabs were out by Memorial Day weekend, and the fleet was meant to reach twenty-five by July 1.
It is not a tram route with stops. It is demand-response, point to point, anywhere inside the Boardwalk service area, daily from 2pm to midnight. Each cab seats two adults and two children, and at least one in ten of them has to be able to carry a stroller, a wheelchair or a walker.

What it changes for a visitor: the walk back from the Inlet at 11pm now has a price on it, and it is not a small one. Thirty dollars for the length of the Boardwalk is about what a two-mile cab ride costs anywhere, and the tram was three dollars. Treat a pedicab as a treat or a rescue rather than as transit, and agree the fare with the driver before you get in — the figures above are the franchise's published range, not a meter.

The franchise ordinance itself has not been read. Fares, hours and fleet size all come from reporting on the April 28 council award rather than from a schedule the town publishes.
