    Ocean City put a plain-clothes policeman on the street at twenty dollars a week in November 1938, 'for a while'

    'W. A Taylor was appointed as Plain Clothes Police for a while at 20.00 week.' Two sentences of context sit either side of it in the same year: on 12 July a letter from the Chamber of Commerce was 'referred to police for enforcement except the cleaning of Beach', and on 10 November Dr. Buhrman raised 'the need for a police signal light to be operated from the telephone Central', which was left with the secretary to price. The Ocean City Police Department dates in this campaign's record from 1937, when L. B. Cropper was chief.
