Swepson Earle

Conservation Commissioner of Maryland in the 1920s. In July 1924 he reported that Sinepuxent Bay was becoming the seat of a crabbing industry and that thirty-three crabbing licences had been issued there — the first since the crabbing licence law of 1916 — crediting the change to the inlet cut by the storm of 1920. 'For years the State and Federal governments tried to open a waterway between the Sinepuxent and the ocean, but each time the inlet closed. Then nature provided the opening.'
