Bought 'The Gables' on the north-westerly side of Baltimore Avenue, Ocean City, from Franklin Upshur and wife in February 1924 with his wife Hattie W. Chandler, and ran it that season under 'New management' — 'Centrally located. Home cooking. Hot and cold water. Reasonable. Telephone 45.' The Chandlers advertised it in Virginia as 'next to the Presbyterian Church … Home cooking and a better place to eat.'
