Mrs. George B. Conner

Bought the Hastings Hotel at Ocean City in March 1922 for $25,000, in what the county paper called "an important real estate deal." The Hastings had opened as the newest hotel on the boardwalk, advertising rooms with private bath in the Washington Evening Star's Ocean City block in 1919 under Mrs. K. C. Hastings. The Conner name was already on the boardwalk: Conner's Restaurant appears in the Democratic Messenger's 1916 census of Ocean City advertisers.

    Harry Kelley ran for governor and lost the September primary with 61,271 votes, and for most of the year President Granville Trimper ran Ocean City — appearing in the record more than three times as often as the mayor

A mayor of a town of a few thousand year-round residents standing for the governorship of Maryland is itself a measure of what the resort had become — and the town governed perfectly well without him, which is another.

    Kelley returned from the governor's race to a council that had run the town without him, and the chair alternated between President Trimper and Acting President Ellis

The year's two defining documents — the growth resolution and the publicity defence of unconstitutional ordinances — are both the council's work rather than the mayor's, which is a change in where this town's decisions were being made.
