John W. Staton
Snow Hill attorney and Ocean City's town solicitor through the boardwalk litigation. He argued for the Mayor and City Council with Robert P. Graham before Judge Robley D. Jones in the cases decided in February 1911, and the town's 1910-11 accounts pay him $800 for professional service — the largest single professional fee in the ledger — plus $32.50 for having the town's bonds printed. The judgments he recovered against ocean-front owners appear on the receipts side as 'John W Staton vs. American Hotel Resort Co.' ($3,264.06) and 'John W Staton vs Mrs C J Purnell, Mrs Julia A Wilson' ($534.23). He also acted as trustee and assignee in several Worcester County chancery sales in 1911, and appears again in the 1912 accounts at $150 for the Court of Appeals stage of the same litigation.
