The mayor buys the Atlantic Hotel: Capt. W. B. S. Powell and Capt. John H. Long take the town's founding house.
The Democratic Messenger of 26 April 1913 reported in a single sentence what closes a thread the campaign has followed since 1899: "The Atlantic Hotel property at Ocean City was sold this week to Capt. B. S. Powell, mayor of Ocean City, and Captain John H. Long, of Frankford." The Atlantic had been John F. Waggaman's, then the Baltimore syndicate's, then the Ocean City Development Company's through its 1908 bankruptcy; in 1913 it passes to the sitting mayor of the town and a Frankford, Delaware, captain. By July Powell was signing himself "Manager W. B. S. Powell of the Atlantic Hotel" in a complaint to the Public Service Commission, and by December he was buying two more lots on the north side of Worcester Street at $125 and $25. The same year the Maryland Press Association met in the hotel and Governor Goldsborough's callers filled it.
