J. J. Rayne
Ocean City's inspector of walks. The town's accounts for 13 September 1910 to 1 August 1911 pay him for '63 days as inspector of walks, $2 per day — 126.00' — a salaried supervisory post created for the boardwalk and cement-walk programme, and one of the very few full-time-equivalent jobs the corporation had. He appears again in the 1911-12 accounts as 'J. J. Bayne', paid $67 as inspector of walks. In December 1911 he went gunning down the bay with William L. Holloway of Berlin and reported fowl scarce.
