A Black driver at an Ocean City livery stable, killed on the beach south of the town in the northeast storm of late February 1902 while returning from carrying a hunting party to the wild-duck grounds near the North Beach Life-Saving Station. One of his two horses drowned; he was found with his neck broken, eight miles south of Ocean City, by Capt. J. A. J. Hudson of the North Beach station. The team belonged to L. J. Bunting, who went down the beach to search for him. He is the He is the first Black resident of Ocean City this campaign has found in a WHITE newspaper — the 1900 pass had already named four from The Colored American's own Ocean City column (Cyrus St. Clair, a butcher on Baltimore Street; head waiters James L. Honeywell and John Rider; and Robert W. Greene of the Ocean City Lyceum), so the distinction is which press was doing the naming, not whether anyone had been named.
