Keeper of the Green Run Inlet life-saving station on the Worcester County beach as of 1 July 1891, listed in the Official Register of the United States (Fifth District, keepers) as "George C. Birch … Virginia … Virginia … Green Run Inlet … $700.00." He matters to the record because the Democratic Messenger of 9 April 1892 reported that the Ocean City and Green Run keepers had swapped stations and named the Green Run man as J. J. Dunton — but nine months earlier the Green Run keeper of record was Birch, not Dunton. By 1 July 1893 Green Run was Adelbert Soper's and Birch had left the district roster.
