   When the Salisbury laundry that washed Ocean City's sheets took army contracts instead, twelve hotels leased a shut-down laundry in Georgetown, Delaware, bought its trucks and ran it themselves.

   — 1944 FULL PASS, 2026-08-12 [extended]: The 1944 minute book carries the local sequel. On 15 February 1944 a sitting councilman, E. Raymond Bounds, applied to put a chicken-dressing plant in the OLD LAUNDRY BUILDING ON TALBOT STREET - so the building that had washed Ocean City's sheets stood empty and available that winter. Eight days later, on 23 February 1944, the council granted James H. Phillips a permit to install a laundry in the basement of his own hotel on North 2nd Street, conditioned on his not burning soft coal or making smoke. The twelve hotels' Georgetown, Delaware lease is not mentioned again in 1944 or 1945.
