Charles Webb of J.
hotel manager · active 1901
Hagerstown man who became manager of the Atlantic Hotel at Ocean City for the 1901 season, taking the house over from the Washington agency of Geo. D. De Shields. He advertised it through the Washington press over his own name from an office at 700 14th St NW until 15 June and from Ocean City after, opened it on 29 June "thoroughly renovated", ran concerts morning and evening, and was one of the six incorporators and the first vice-president of the Ocean City Golf and Country Club. The unusual suffix "of J." - a Maryland convention distinguishing men of the same name by their fathers' initials - is how he signed every advertisement.
