New York–Norfolk steamship line that bought into the lower Eastern Shore's railroads in the mid-1870s. By July 1875 it had acquired the controlling interest in the Worcester Railway and built the line from the Delaware state line to Berlin, connecting there with the Frankford & Lewes road and thence to New York by boat; it was extending from Snow Hill toward the Virginia line with the intention of reaching Cherrystone and Norfolk. The competition it created cut freight rates on the Wicomico & Pocomoke and the other peninsula roads in Ocean City's founding year, and by November 1875 it had a line to Stockton on Synepuxent Bay and was hauling Chincoteague oysters to the New York steamers at Lewes.
