The Washington Evening Star reported in April 1946 a new plane-taxicab service from Baltimore to Ocean City. Anthony G. Rytina, the local representative, said passengers would be met at Rehoboth Beach with a taxicab to take them the remaining 26 miles to Ocean City at a rate comparable to bus fares, and that altogether the trip would take 'less than two hours'; the airline's schedule of two flights daily from Washington and Baltimore to Rehoboth Beach would be increased gradually after the vacation season opened. Maryland Airlines had four Cessnas carrying four passengers each and three Noorduyn Norseman transports carrying six to seven. By June a competitor was advertising in the same paper: Capitol Air Service out of National Airport, 'to Rehoboth Beach, Ocean City, Md. by air - save time, travel, discomfort, 45 minutes one way, 3 flights daily, $10.50 one way, $19.95 round trip.' And from 28 May, Chesapeake Airways buses connecting the resort and the Salisbury Airport met all flights. Ocean City had no landing field of its own until Robert Lee Cropper began building one in November.
