Cordova Social Club
club · active 1900
Social club of Black hotel workers at Ocean City in the summer of 1900. Cyrus St. Clair tendered it a smoker on a Thursday evening in July at which Stokes, Honeywell, Walker White and Prof. Howells, principal of the coloured high school at Snow Hill, made short addresses. Its members were named as Honeywell, Stokes, White, Green, Welch and Wilson. A companion body, the Imperial Yachting Club (Stokes, Greene, Honeywell, Hartgrove and Wilson), arranged a night outing on 15 August. Both sit alongside the Ocean City Lyceum in a season of dense Black associational life that no white newspaper of the year records at all.
