   The doctors of three states hold their third annual meeting at Ocean City and dine at the Plimhimmon at half past nine.

   The Messenger of 26 July 1919: "The Third Annual meeting of the Association of Medical Societies of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Delaware and Virginia was held at the State School Building, Ocean City, Thursday, and the banquet at the Plimhimmon at 9.30 o'clock Thursday night. Dr. George W. Todd, of Salisbury, is President. The meeting was largely attended and many of the doctors had their wives with them." A tri-state medical association meeting on the Eastern Shore nine months after the influenza pandemic's worst wave is the closest the 1919 corpus comes to a local health story — no account of what they discussed survives.

2. 1920

   1920 was a convention summer: the Baptists' Chautauqua in July, the Episcopalians' summer school in June, the doctors of three states, the Peninsula lumber dealers, and the American Legion booking the town for 1921.

   **The Baptists, 25-28 July.** "The annual Training School for Christian workers and Chautauqua features will be held at Ocean City, Md., beginning Sunday, July 25, and lasting through Wednesday, July 28. The sessions will be held in the High School building and the M. E. Church adjoining the High School. Each day will be a special rally day for the Baptists of the Shore especially. All classes and lectures are free to all." Dr. Charles H. Pinchbeck of the Seventh Baptist Church, Baltimore, preached on the Sunday; Dr. Wm. H. Parker of Cincinnati gave "The New Americanism"; Dr. Bob Killgore lectured on the Monday, Mrs. Valeria H. Parker of Boston on the Tuesday; Walter Gressitt of Baltimore led the Sunday services with the trombone. Rev. Kingman A. Handy, Baptist Educational Secretary of the State, was Dean; H. L. Parkinson president, Lloyd Webster of Cambridge treasurer. **The Episcopalians, 21-25 June:** the Peninsula Summer School of the Diocese of Delaware and Easton, "a Summer School for Religious Education … under the auspices of the Provincial Commission on Religious Education," with conferences for clergy and parish organisations and courses in pedagogy, Bible, church history and missions. **The doctors:** the Association of Medical Societies of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Virginia and Delaware held its annual meeting at Ocean City on Thursday 29 July. **The trade:** the Peninsula Lumber Dealers' Association met at Ocean City in mid-July. **And the veterans:** at its Cumberland convention in September the Maryland department of the American Legion "decided to hold next year's convention at Ocean City, Md."
